Celestine Phelan is Executive Chair of Event Communications and Event Ireland, a group of specialist design businesses which she co-founded in 1986.Over the past 30 years Event has become the largest company in Europe focused on the design of museums and attractions.
Educated at Mount Anville and UCD, Cel started her career with Vatican Radio before joining RTE. In 1980 she moved to London with her husband Bill, then working for Guinness. She met her business partner, Steve Simons, when scripting the World’s Fair British Pavilions at Tsukuba (Japan) and Vancouver. They founded Event in 1986, finding that Cel’s skills as storyteller combined with Steve’s design vision and energy. Designing to communicate remains Event’s mission.
Cel has been responsible for Event’s business development and client relationships since its inception. Her goal has been to ensure the authenticity and quality of the original conception through to delivery. Cel is a strong supporter of the European Museum Academy, Museums Association, the Association of Independent Museums, the Irish Museums Association and the European Museum Forum and has contributed advice and papers.
As Chair of Event, she continues her role in ensuring excellent relationships with Event’s clients and the wider world.
