Titanic Belfast Named World’s Leading Tourist Attractions at the World Travel Awards
Titanic Belfast continues to go from strength to strength as it was named the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards earlier this week. Titanic Belfast saw off competition from eight global finalists, including Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, the Las Vegas Strip, Machu Picchu, Mount Kilimanjaro and Guinness Storehouse in Dublin.
Earlier this year Titanic Belfast was awarded Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction over stalwart classics: the Colosseum, the Acropolis, the Eiffel Tower and the London Eye. With this newest accolade, Titanic Belfast has genuinely earned it’s ‘world-class’ moniker.
Event is delighted to add this award to the growing list of honours now boasted by Titanic Belfast, whose winning streak has included the THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement 2014, Outstanding Visitor Experience at the NI Tourism Awards in 2015, Best Visitor Attraction at the European Group Travel Awards 2015, as well as having been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2015.
Event is proud to have delivered this project – working on the interpretation and exhibition design from the initial masterplanning stages through to completion in 2012. Titanic Belfast celebrates the city’s shipbuilding and industrial heritage, placing the story of Titanic at its heart. Original drawings and records for the Titanic still exist, and contemporary technology brings this archival material to life through nine episodic galleries – from Boomtown Belfast, through to Titanic’s genesis, demise and rediscovery. It’s been described the Guardian as “an inspiring testament to the Titanic and the city that built it”. Titanic Belfast received its 3 millionth visitor in August – in a city of just 330,000 inhabitants.
