Traditional and Hip

Céol, The Traditional Irish Music Centre

Céol explores the core story of Irish traditional music - its essence, history and development - through a series of light, sound, projected and 3D installations. Together they reveal the complexities of one of the world’s most exciting musical genres.

The design challenge revolved around distilling the richness of the tradition. Event’s response centered on letting the music and its practitioners speak for themselves by combining authenticity with surprise. Visitors find themselves looking and listening afresh to what they thought was familiar.

Céol ends with the message that Irish music and dance is vibrant and strong in the 21st century. It is intended to whet the appetite of visitors so that they leave in search of the living musical expression.
