St. Patrick - A World Icon

The Saint Patrick Centre

In Downpatrick, famed as the burial place of Ireland’s patron Saint, Ego Patricius tells the story of the fifth century missionary and celebrates an inheritance shared by people of Irish ancestry across the world.

Galleries deal not only with Patrick’s portrayal of his own life but also with the commentaries of writers and historians up to the present day. Displays combine artworks with sound, audiovisual and interactives to place Patrick’s words at the core of the visitor experience.

The cultural and artistic heritage that Ireland’s early Christian era produced provides another major focus.

The exhibition culminates in a panoramic audiovisual presentation that celebrates Patrick as a contemporary cultural icon.
