A Homecoming

EPIC Ireland

As Dublin’s comprehensive account of the Irish Diaspora, EPIC Ireland is a dramatic interactive experience showcasing ten million journeys exploring the roots of seventy million people.

Target audiences include inter-generational family groups, members of the Diaspora, other international tourists and school groups.

The experience is delivered across twenty one interactive galleries situated in vaults underneath the Custom House Quarter Grade 1 listed building – its cast iron framed structure dating from 1820. Once used to store whiskey, the barrel-vaulted, stone-walled chambers are rich in atmosphere, but required sensitive intervention to host complex multimedia displays..

EPIC Ireland is the first digital-only museum in the world. Its growing collection will be stored in the cloud rather than on shelves or behind glass. As part of the Diaspora Today section, blogs, tweets, social-media posts and emails will be collected from Irish people living across the globe.

EPIC Ireland opened on May 6, 2016 in the presence of Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, and to widespread critical acclaim.
