An Enduring Pursuit

Pirates: Fact and Fiction, National Maritime Museum

Pirates: Fact and Fiction at the National Maritime Museum expanded on the romantic notion of pirates by exploring narratives in books, theatre and film.

The exhibition included original set designs, costumes, audio and video clips from Spielberg’s film Hook, offering an appropriate and easily recognisable commentary to the layout.

The story incorporated an interview with a contemporary pirate working in the Strait of Malacca, while an imaginary pirate, Captain Woods Rogers, led children around the displays, bridging the factual and the fictional.
