Layering History

The Commandery

From medieval monastic hospital, through to twentieth century print works, Worcester’s Commandery has been reinvented, time and again.

Event’s interpretative strategy was to peel back the layers of history and expose key periods of the building’s past. Visitors can either uncover six layers of history in a single room or move through the whole building in a single historic timescale.

Themed installations are devoted to constant human conditions such as love, illness or disputation. The rooms are presented almost empty, revealing different interventions of the building’s fabric. This minimalist approach enables visitor imagination to take flight.
