H.C. Andersen's House: One of Time Out's 'Best Things to Do in the World'

Tags

H.C. Andersen's House has been named one of the 22 'best things to do in the world' in 2022 by Time Out. The annual list, composed by Time Out editors and contributors, names 'the coolest new things happening anywhere on earth', from museums to gigs, theatre to art exhibitions.

H.C. Andersen's House, which we worked on from masterplan through to design and delivery, is located in Odense, the home town of Hans Christian Andersen. The city is undergoing a major civic regeneration project to help reclaim its historic centre. The museum itself is central to this project, and, just months after its opening, is already proving to be the city's new star attraction.

This thoroughly fun museum would no doubt have delighted the ‘Little Mermaid’ and ‘Snow Queen’ author himself.

'Just 90 minutes by train from Copenhagen is dinky, charming Odense. This place is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, and as of this month, it is now home to the brand-new architectural wonder that is the HCA Museum, an affectionate tribute to the fairytale master. With its inventive biographical exhibits – including theatrical imaginings of his memoirs and inanimate projects that come alive (much like in his stories) – this thoroughly fun museum would no doubt have delighted the ‘Little Mermaid’ and ‘Snow Queen’ author himself', said Time Out's Alex Hayward.

So: anyone for a fairytale trip to Odense?
