Iolaire Centre: Masterplan & Community Engagement
We are thrilled to be working on the Iolaire Centre Masterplan and exploring ways to engage with the local community.
Verity Parkin one of our Content Designers, shares more about the project:
“Over the past few months, we have been working in Stornoway, Scotland, with a team of trustees planning to create a centre commemorating the Iolaire Disaster of 1919. This tragic event occurred when a ship carrying soldiers returning from the First World War sank just before reaching Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.
We have visited the island multiple times, meeting with local people to understand their hopes, ambitions, and vision for the centre.
Working closely with LATERAL NORTH we facilitated focus groups and interviews with key stakeholders. We also ran workshops with primary and secondary school students, as well as care home residents. The generosity, curiosity, and openness of the community have been truly inspiring. It has been a privilege to contribute to this meaningful project.”
We look forward to sharing more updates in the coming months.
