Oman’s new national museum
The dream of the late sultan, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Oman Across Ages was imagined as a place to honour human endeavour, celebrate Oman’s past, and inspire its young people. We first started work on the brief when the museum only an idea and oversaw project to completion.

A mesmerising journey
Working closely with the client team, we developed the vision, interpretation and design, for the museum and its wider site. This vision was articulated through an architectural masterplan, detailed content brief and experiential approach.
We established a local office to deliver the project. Our team immersed themselves in the country’s rich history and culture, developing interpretive designs rooted in a sense of place. We chose the power of multimedia to capture Oman’s past, its peerless landscapes, and the hearts young Omanis – the museum’s priority audience. The galleries were our canvas, some up to 20 meters high.
Visitors journey through the ages as archival and contemporary footage, photography and augmented reality combine with object displays to spectacular effect.

Painting a picture of each era
In 2024, Oman Across Ages was honoured with the ‘Prix Versailles Special prize for an Exterior’ for Cox Architecture’s outstanding building. To us this prize embodies the fulfilment our client’s vow. A vow to create a world-class museum that celebrates the creation of a nation and inspires young Omanis to connect with their nation’s history.
